Registration process

Main content

All users of the GDC are required to register by name and institution and provide a short project description. Every project registered will receive a project ID and data storage space on the lab server. Data can be accessed via the NETHZ-login (see instructions). The NETHZ-login is also required to login to the lab computers and for the electronic instrument booking system. For users not employed at ETH, GDC will provide a NETHZ guest account.

Please read the following instructions carefully. There will be additional information and help on the online application form.

1. Project registration

Please register your project here. Add the submitter name and email address in case we need to contact you.

The finance information is needed to charge you correctly (see price policy). ETH users can be charged with an “internal money transfer”, therefore we need the “Fondsnumber” and “Leitzahl”. ETH domain users and external users will be billed.

2. User registration

All participants in the project (including the project supervisor) are required to register as a user here. New users can be added to existing projects at any time. If a participant is already registered as a user on a previous project, another user registration is not required. Please also add the submitter name and email address in case we need to contact you to clarify any details.

3. Project approval

The project and user registration will be reviewed by the GDC. Once the project is confirmed by the project leader and approved by the GDC you will receive a project number and NETHZ-logins if required. Additionally, every project will receive an project folder on our lab server. Data on this server is backed-up daily and is accessible until the user account and/or the project is closed. All members of the project have access to the project data folder via NETHZ. For bioinformatic projects, an additional account on our servers will be opened on request after the first meeting.

4. First Meeting

Before you start working, we will meet with you personally to discuss the details of the project. During this meeting we also introduce you to the laboratory rules and inform you about the operating procedure in the GDC lab (for lab users) and/or inform you about our data policy (for bioinformatics projects). Once you have accepted and signed the lab rules and read the data management policy, you are allowed to use the GDC facilities.
