The analysis of genetic diversity is a key element for the study of biodiversity, ecosystem functioning, and the consequences of man-made impact on natural systems such as climate change, habitat fragmentation, and biological invasions. Genetic diversity is also central for the understanding of epidemics, the impact of diseases, or the effects of medical intervention.
The Genetic Diversity Centre (GDC) is a technology and knowledge platform of the Department of Environmental System Sciences (D-USYS), that provide the technological and methodical tools to study genetic diversity in natural or managed populations. Its aim is to ensure up-to-date technological know how as well as the competence in the analysis of genetic data, as well as education and training for staff, students and researchers at all levels. The GDC is unique, as it explicitly accommodates the needs relating to diverse molecular tools of researchers in ecology, population biology or evolutionary biology who typically have to deal with large sample sizes.
The GDC is a user laboratory and offers its services to a broad network of research groups within ETH Zurich, the ETH domain and other academic institutions. Information about the access to the GDC is found under project request guidelines.
